I was on a webinar with Katie Freiling http://katiefreiling.com/ today for people who have joined her new brainchild “The Unified Tribe” and something she said triggered the words of one of my favorite John Lennon songs. She was talking about the Pillars to Success and taking ACTION being one of them.
Katie made the comment “most people spend their time getting ready for action. I immediately heard the line from John Lennon’s song Beautiful Boy “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans…..” in my head. I remember when the song first came out those words hit a core deep inside me and over the years I have often reflected on how much I do let life slip by while I am planning something else. As much as I vow to live “in the now” I do not always practice it.
Many times in my life I have felt like I did not take enough action for something important to me.
I have also witnessed countless others do the same. In my time working in event management and education I witnessed many people become “groupie seminar attendees” without ever taking action.
Hey and right now I am guilty of buying home study courses for various aspects of internet marketing. Some unstarted!
Is it that there is so much compelling sales copy out there that we are drawn to have to buy more than we can possibly give our time to studying and implementing? Or is it that we think we are not enough, don’t know enough and are always searching for more?
It is so easy for us to get caught up in “busy work” these days. I know I can waste hours on email and – wow now with social media…..! Where should we be spending out time – and what is important?
So Katie’s advice about taking ACTION/ ACTION/ ACTION is excellent advice and of course she advised “consistent action”. The Action should be in areas that matter and will take us towards our goals.
Let me know what you think. Do you ever feel like you should have taken more action? Is life happening to you while you are making other plans?

Hi Sue
You have hit the nail on the head here. I too am a study junkie and I definitely believe for me it is because I don’t think I am good enough as I am but I am working on that and in the last year I decided that I am enough exactly as I am and I am taking action. Hence I am where I am now, doing what makes my heart sing – blogging.

Hi Belinda
I really understand as I have spent most of my life not feeling “enough”. And I have done a lot of personal development. It is excellent you are loving blogging. I am too although I have not enjoyed the technical side. Having said that I do feel a great sense of accomplishment for pushing through.

This is quite a complex subject for me. I grew up with the mind set that preparation and planning are important. However as I grow older, I began to wonder if I have been wasting time focusing too much on the future that I fail to live in the moment. This scares me. What if the time comes that I’m old already and realize that my entire life just passed me by. That would be a shame. I have not figured out the answer to this yet. Just doing my best to strike a balance between the two.

Oh Adam what you say here is so valid. It is about striking a balance for sure. Planning and having goals but not losing the moment is something to strive for I think. Easier said than done but if we are mindful of it we have more chance.
Thanks for commenting Adam.
