Many years ago when I was introduced to A Course In Miracles I learned there are really only two emotions, love and fear. All other emotions stem from either love or from fear.
I was reminded of these teachings as I watched one of our TV hosts here in Australia speak out about an attack on another TV celebrity. The Project host Waleed Aly said sending forgiveness was better response to challenging times. He said “Wouldn’t it be amazing if just once we could send forgiveness viral?”
A video clip of his short, heartfelt words have gone viral with over 8 million views.
Here is a little of what he said which was reproduced in The Sydney Morning Herald “Where we’re presented with something that we perceive to be an outrageous opinion we can consider what motivated that person and try to understand their fear. Because the truth is that what motivates them is fear, and fear is the one thing we’re all sharing right now because I’m scared too. I’m afraid for this country.” You can read the rest of the article by Aisha Dow [HERE]
As I watched him speak I reflected on how so many people have become fearful in these times. It is not possible to hold love and fear in your heart at the same time.
I love this famous quote that says it so well.
“There are only two emotions: love and fear. All positive emotions come from love, all negative emotions from fear. From love flows happiness, contentment, peace, and joy. From fear comes anger, hate, anxiety and guilt. It’s true that there are only two primary emotions, love and fear. But it’s more accurate to say that there is only love or fear, for we cannot feel these two emotions together, at exactly the same time. They’re opposites. If we’re in fear, we are not in a place of love. When we’re in a place of love, we cannot be in a place of fear.”
― Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
Taking the higher road when choosing between love and fear
Coming from love is not easy.
It is easy to react.
It is easy to get caught up in the emotions at turbulent times.
Coming from love is taking the higher ground and being a great example of a human being.
Imagine if we all took Mother Teresa’s advice here. How much better would the world be?
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” Mother Teresa
In this short video Jim Carrey says it very well.
A book I recommend on the subject is A Return To Love by Marianne Williamson. The book is based on the teachings and Principles of A Course in Miracles. It is a book I have read many times over the years.
One more quote on the subject…..
“All human actions are motivated at their deepest level by two emotions–fear or love. In truth there are only two emotions–only two words in the language of the soul…. Fear wraps our bodies in clothing, love allows us to stand naked. Fear clings to and clutches all that we have, love gives all that we have away. Fear holds close, love holds dear. Fear grasps, love lets go. Fear rankles, love soothes. Fear attacks, love amends.”
Neale Donald Walsch
I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject of love and fear so please leave me a comment.
Have an amazing day!
Namaste

Great blog on a very deep level. Those who have never experienced, “A Course in Miracles,” may have a difficult time comprehending the two emotion train of thought. Let’s not forget, the media does an excellent job at spreading the fear based energy that is going around the world. If they dare try to post the kindness projects, or the “pay it forward” projects, it seems to fall on deaf ears or blind eyes, only to leave the media struggling for numbers. It appears that the generations of fear mongering (and we need to face that fact that manipulation through fear has gone on in families for centuries, too) has left many hearts empty and many people lack the desire for joy and/or joyful experience. It is like societies all over the globe feed on fear. This is sad but true. Most people would have a hard time understanding that behavior is rooted in fear or love they just cannot make the connection, as this is not the path they are on or the path they are familiar with. I wrote a book about fear, “The Light That Shines Through The Fields of Fear” and have written and created coaching programs around the fears rooted in greed, guilt, shame and self-doubt. Sadly, not only is fear a lower vibrating energy, it becomes part of our DNA, to be triggered within us by the least of things, when we don’t expect it. This fear based energy can cause a multitude of health issues as well. Thank you for sharing such a terrific blog.

Wow Mai, thank you for your insights and words of wisdom. I had a quick peek at your website and will go over there later. Sadly all you say here is so true. I say “sadly” as I believe it is very sad that so many people live in fear. It is quite interesting as the TV show I quoted is a different take on the news here in Australia. They also have a segment on “feel good” stories. The show is very popular and the guy who made the heartfelt speech won the Gold Logie here this year. It makes me think that many people are wanting hope and a different path.
I agree that people who are not familiar with A Course In Miracles may not understand however I see a growing number of people gravitating to personal development.
Thank you for your comment Mai.

wow Sue – I want to stand up and applaud your blog… as you know I’ve been back in the UK for over a year now – sometimes I think too long lol.. what a contrast to NZ… whether its the company I keep here… I don’t know however.. lets just say a lack of patience compassion for anyone who is not white and its not easy…. Whilst I can’t bear comments like the one Sonia made ‘close the borders to Muslims’ WTF? as I said in a post recently – its the MINORITY every time… anyway enough of my rant.. I must get back to A course in Miracles.. I keep starting but not continueing.. thanks Sue 🙂

I sort of guessed from much of the media reporting about Brexit there was a lot of racism still happening in the UK Helen. I am sure you are finding it very difficult. Mostly it is pretty good here but with recent world events you get comments like Sonia made. I am not a fan of hers and when I saw it all over our media I almost made a nasty comment to her like many others were doing. I chose not to and when I saw Waleed Aly’s comments that night I was pleased I had restrained myself. If anyone could have reacted to her it could have been him. He is a Muslim man. Instead though he chose to go a different way and his message did go viral. I saw one reporter write “Waleed Aly teaches us all how to be better human beings”.
Thanks for your comment Helen. Hugs x

Incredible blog Sue, I’ve come to understand that love knows no boundaries and if we truly adapt towards the emotion of love with with an abundance of faith, a person can truly overcome fear with the greatest of ease. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Thanks for your words of wisdom David. It is a great understanding to have come to and if more people can do that the world would be an amazing place.

I just love this blog post Sue and thanks for recommending A Course in Miracles – can’t believe I’ve never read it. And how exciting would it be if we could begin an epidemic of love and forgiveness.
Sue Price says
Thanks for your comment Kerry. It would be very exciting to see an epidemic of love and forgiveness. 🙂 A Course In Miracles is amazing but it is hard going to read. Marianne Williamson teaches on the course and makes it much simpler. Maybe start with her book A Return To Love. Have a great weekend.

Great blog and so true Fear and Love cannot be in the same space at the same time within us.
Bob Hoffmans course also teachs some awesome distinctions about this unseen flip flopping of emotions that drives us.
Unfortunatley most of us live in fear. fear of travel, fear of sharing, fear of being taken for a ride , fear of rejection, fear of being hurt, fear of the new… it goes on and on.
Social media, TV, Radio does not help that of course.
We simply need more people demonstrating that we can come from love and people will follow. That is what the epidemic will look like and it is not simple !!!!….. LOL !!!!
Love to you Sue

Hi Di,
The mention of Hoffman send shivers down my spine. I know it is a good process but my memories of doing it are not so great.
The list of fears we have is huge and I agree the list does go on and on. The media does much to escalate it sadly many (or most) people buy into it.
I agree we need more people demonstrating that we come from love. It is not simple that is for sure but for us to aim to be the best at it we can is a great start. Given t he viral nature of Waleed Aly’s video it tells me many people are looking for hope.
Love right back to you Di. Hugs too 🙂

A Miracle is just a ‘shift’ in perception. Powerful concepts in the Course. We will eventually all choose Love. The Universe is patient. Thank you Sue!
Sue Price says
I have never heard a miracle referred to like that before Rory so thank and it makes sense. The Universe it patient. Thank you for your insights.

Love this post Sue:)
I’ve never really thought about that, the fact that love and fear cannot be present at the same time. It’s a pretty profound thought when you think about it.
I am familiar with some of Marianne Williamson’s work, but have not yet read “A Return To Love,” I am definitely adding that to my reading list.
I also really enjoyed the Jim Carey video/speech, he is such an inspiring speaker.
Thanks for sharing!

It is interesting when we realize love and fear cannot be present at the same time. We can then be more present to what we are feeling at any given time. I am sure you will love A Return to Love Kristine. It is an amazing book. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.
