We do not have to do all the technical slog ourselves, I have a wonderful solution but first let me set the scene.
It recently hit me that I used to be called “the queen of delegation” and that I had now become an “S”. Of the four quadrants “S” is the one I least want to be in. It is the toughest and one I once had moved right away from.
For anyone not familiar with what an “S” is, it is from the book The Cashflow Quadrant™ by Robert Kiyosaki. If you have not read this book please go over to my post Learning from the book The Cashflow Quadrant™ – Part 2
An “S” is a self employed person and this includes small business owners who are still working in their business (as opposed to on it). Often these people hold beliefs such as they have to do it all themselves or no one can do it as good as them. I don’t fit into that boat I simply don’t have anyone to delegate to – or so I thought.
I came online in January 2010. I did this to grow my Network Marketing Business but I must confess I have spent all that year learning. To put this in perspective I had a lot to learn. I was what most people would call “technically challenged”. I am a professional (CPA/ Financial Planner) and business woman who had PAs and staff to delegate to since I was very young. Someone else did my typing, sent my emails and backed me up. So here I was early this year a technophobic wanting to start an Internet Marketing business.
I thank the Universe for the teachers that came into my life. Seriously I did not know what a plug-in was, a widget or how to upload a photo.
But here I am 10 months later with a blog that I built, videos online, and loving social media. I am glad I persevered however I am over doing all the backroom stuff. I don’t have staff to delegate to nor do I want to employ people in that capacity again. I kept hearing people talking about Virtual Assistants (VA) and started to think that was an option for me. It seemed to make sense hiring someone from overseas as the rates are very affordable.
I did some research on this possibility but kept coming up with people who were very qualified in one or two areas only. How would I find someone who can do it all? Hmm…. probably just like in conventional business when we are employing someone you do not get people who excel in every area. I also am not sure if I have enough work to keep one person busy on a full time basis.
Then the perfect answer was presented to me through a new service which offered a monthly subscription and gave you access to their team of VAs to help with technical and SEO. This means there are people with varying talents. It also means that someone else finds me the perfect person to do whatever it is I require. Hey no managing staff myself. I think this is such a good service.
If you are still unsure if you are ready to outsource please watch my short video here where I share with you what Robert Kiyosaki said to me in 1992 when I first me him.

Hi Sue
Great to hear about Jodies new venture – what a great idea. I do love doing all the back office ‘stuff’ myself though or rather I like knowing how to do it all. Great to have the option to use a VA.

Hi Belinda
Jodie has been discussing various concepts with us on the Saturday calls for a while now. There were several of us wanting to outsource. I think it will work well.
I am glad I leaned to do the back office stuff but am over it now. I just want to do more marketing, which is what I love.

Hi Sue,
I love this powerful message: Don’t do something on your own if you can hire someone to do it for you.
Applying this message or not tells a lot about the size of our mind.
Great video by the way, and nice pool in the background.
Will have to convince my wife to escape winter 😉
Thanks for sharing your insights.
Take care
Oliver
Sue says
Thanks Oliver. I agree with you comment it tells a lot about the size of our mind. Many people cannot understand the concept and it can be scary when we first let go.
The pool is lovely and I am looking forward to enjoying it over the Christmas break. As it is summer in Australia it is pretty standard to have the time from Christmas to just after New Year off work.
You and your family will have to come out here so yes do convince your wife 🙂
Have a great day

I think that outsourcing is key to your online success. You want to take yourself away from as many tedious tasks as much as possible, so that you don’t wear yourself out or become overwhelmed.
Sue says
Hi Donny
I agree with you totally. Overwhelm is something I was starting to feel on a daily basis. It is not possible to do it all.
Thanks for our feedback.

Hey Sue, good stuff there. In the exciting world of internet marketing there is always more to do than time to do it. Thanks for the tips
Sue says
Marc I so agree with you. I have a habit of adding more things to my “to do” list than I do of ticking them off. It really is necessary for me to focus on what is important.

Thanks for sharing this valuable article, Sue. You strike the right points. I am a big fan of Robert Kiyosaki, too, but I have never met him face to face. Great job!
Sue says
Andrew I was blessed to meet Robert 20 years ago first before he had written Rich Dad Poor Dad. He used to teach in Australia back then. Later I was CEO of the company that promoted him in Australia and New Zealand. He is a great guy and has an amazing mind.
Thanks for your comment.

Outsourcing can be a terrific way not only for efficiency and to cut costs, but to get fresh ideas and different perspectives on a certain project as well. As in most cases, it has to be determined if a project is ripe for outsourcing before going for it.
Sue says
Adam I wrote down a list of things I need outsourced again last weekend. It was very long. People who are running an internet business and trying to do it all will not get very far.
Thanks for commenting.
